    Weekend
I got to have my semi-annual birthday shoot this weekend. All I can say is that I am a lucky, lucky, lucky man
to have some many friends willing to indulge me.
Thanks to all who made it possible.
I had a great post about Thailand planned, but I was wiped after and could not really deal.
I am almost at the point where I might consider eating thai food again.
In the end I got 2 half days of sightseeing and 19 days of 12-16 hours a day, most of that spent
in and around a Royal Thai Marine Barracks.
I survived, made friends with the Marines I was with and we only lost 2 drive motor amps and
one spectacular explosion of a braking resister that smelled really bad, especially when we had to bring it back to the
    hotel to fix.

    rested
SO far so good. two working robots and one working OCU. Need to debug other OCU but
the plugs here all all 2 prong.

Yesterday was the drive from Bangkok to Chaing Mai.
That was a long ass bumpy, bumpy drive. It seems like the lines
are just a suggestion. I suppose the driver swerved around to miss some of the
pot holes. I was worried that there would be few places to stop
but there were tons of these gas station rest stops all long the way.
Just need to be able to guage how good the rest rooms were at each one.
Yeah, no western style toilets most of the way and a handy bucket so you can flush.
I was way off the meal plan for me. At each stop there were all kinds of bizarre
salty snacks. They were kind enough to show me the total in bhat on a calculator.
Some interesting fried balls of dough with some kind of meat in them. Could have been
    pork of chicken.

Bangkok was fun before that. It' was a lot like NYC but hot out (and everyone
looked Thai :). Outside the hotel was about 10 massage parlors. I could not go 10 feet w/o
and solicitation for a massage. I was told I fit the "look" for people who go to these
places. I have not done a massage here yet, but I will at some point. Just need to make
sure all I get is a massage.
Oh well a long post for me. More later, maybe some pictures if I can get a faster link.

    Holy Frak
Someone I know was quoted in Wired ! And not from a person who I would expect.
I mean a know a few geeky people who have been in Wired, but I do not think of this
person as very geeky, just Hot!.

    I am so sore
I skated for almost 1.5 hours. Had one small spill early on. Glad my muscle memory for skating went back 28 years. But with about 5 minutes left to go, I fell hard. At least I managed to mostly
fall on my ass where I had some shock absorption. I must have hit with mt right hand cause my
right shoulder is hurting big time.
In the end I think it was worth the hurt. It was a lot of fun to do. I just hope
    my arm recovers fast.
In other news I have been on a big wine a cheese obsession, so if anyone has suggestions let me have em.

Oh No I am doomed !
Home sick, was surfing and found this

    http://www.rulethehonorverse.com/

I thought WoW was bad. I could withstand

    http://www.stargateworlds.com/

or even the upcoming Firefly MMORPG

but doing it with Honor is going to be almost impossible.
I can hope the game is bad so I can still have some kind of
    a life.

    surfacing
Hey all. A post from me. Last week with the time off I got to teach myself PyOpenGL and wxPython.
dorky fun. I now love python.
Then I saw this xkcd and could not believe how close it was to how i felt.

Otherwise I'm healthy and doing OK. Have had some great visits with some folks
and some more to come that I am greatly looking forward to.

or did it just come to him at the end ?

    what I did at camp
I'm sure lots of people have beat me to it, but here is a camp post.
Camp is the best place on earth ! I played a lot. Did a lot less reading.
All of my play dates were great and each special in some way. Made some new
friends. A few quotes as best I can remember them.

"oh my god stop! oh my god stop! ... but not for another 10 seconds"

"What happened to the nice Andy we know and love"

"I am ashamed to admit I like the saw-z-all"

"For the first 3 seconds I thought it was just a plug, then fire!"

"What are you doing ? we are bidding to buy her for the same person!"
(OK so that one really needs the context, but it was a funny moment for me)

    still tired, maybe ...
its being tired that makes me want to write. Are all of you on the verge of
exhaustion and that is what lets you post ?
Another late night. But much less exploding. It seems to work for the
most part. Just need to do some polish in the morning and we can take it out for a spin.
At one point I even was helping put things together ( which they do not usually let
me do since I break things). while helping I got my hand covered in lithium grease, so I asked
"Does this make me a programmer of the white hand ?"

    does that count as an
all nighter. We have been having all kinds of blown up electronics for the last week
and the team is in a panic to get the robot up and running since I dissapear this Friday
for a week. So we stayed till 2:00 am trying to make it work. In the end it was a
classic wiring problem. Wire shorted to ground plus a 48V stack of batteries makes for
a lot of smoke. wiring and connectors are a pain in the ass. Its a wonder anything with them
    works at all.
We also had one problem where caps would explode if you turned the robot off.
"So why don't we just not turn the robot off ?". Because we know that that is how the
robot take over will begin. It starts with the robots not wanting to be turned off ...

for those of you who did not listen to today's best of "wait, wait, don't tell me"
or did not hear it before.
You can rest easier tonight, knowing that the NSA is already trying to
    recruit the next generation.

    http://www.nsa.gov/kids/

I do not know why I find it so amusing that there is an NSA kids
    website.

As the man said on wait, wait "If your child askes you to speak
loudly in to the lamp ..."

    con
Went to United Fan Con on Sunday and got to see
Grace Park and Jewel Staite speak. It was a lot more fun then I thought it would be.
Also having great company for the day helped.
    small fan boy moment :)
Also managed to pick up the perfect item for virtuallykayla ( be afraid, after all its a gift from me ... )
Also had a great time in DC over the week of Halloween. Got to spend time with some people
I do not get to spend enough time with and proved again that it is
possible to change peoples minds about electricity ;)

"What is the hankey code for het, but likes attention?"

    IRBT
We went public today. Wheeee! We got to see a PackBot ring the opening bell at the NASDAQ.
There were two days to mark this week for me. On Monday my old company where I worked, SGI, was de-listed and
today iRobot had an IPO. I e-mailed my old boss at SGI and said "we went public today, hows your stock ?"
I got back "Your still as funny as ever!" :) Its not a life changing event, but its kind of cool to be
someplace where things seem so up and coming. I still love going to work every day.
In health news I am now basically back to normal. No more BPPV. I can drive and am back to the gym.
But I did avoid the mechanical bull at the IPO party tonight.

do they make marketing people take history ?
I have seen this commercial from GE several times now. It shows when the
two trains meet for the completion of the transcontinental railroad.
But the strange thing is that the music at the end of the commercial is
Marching Through Georgia. Do them make marketing people take history ?
"I know lets end our commercial with this song that celebrates Sherman's march to the sea !"

It had me thinking. I know I would get in trouble is I had a robot
going around work saying "Crush, Kill, Destroy!". But would I get in trouble if
I just had it say "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity !".

I am recovering but it is way slower then I had hoped. Its almost been 5 weeks.
I want to drive again. I am going to try to go to work tomorrow as long as
I can get a ride in.

    still here
I have to say being at home for almost 4 weeks has not been fun. It would be
one thing if I could do more then just lay there most of the time.
At least I have the most wonderful girlfreind in the world to take care of me.

I have started physical therapy, and I am getting better, but its not as
quick as I was hoping for. The bad part is I have to do exercises to clear
my ears that induce vertigo. That then leads to throwing up.
You change what you eat when you consider it coming back up.
